Flat Tire Help

Flat Tire? Do This First

Pull over somewhere safe, turn on your hazards, and do not drive on the flat. Then call Emergency Mobile Tire Repair and tell us where you are. We talk you through spare, repair, or the next best option before anyone rolls.

  • Stop driving. A tire driven flat is often damaged inside and may no longer be repairable
  • No spare? Call anyway. A photo of the sidewall gives us the size
  • Repair on site when the puncture is in the tread and within repair limits
  • Driveways, lots, hotels, and highway shoulders where it is safe to stop

What to Do Before Help Arrives

Get the car as far off the travel lanes as you can. A shoulder, an exit, or a parking lot all beat the road. Put your hazards on. If you are on a highway and traffic is close, stay in the car with your seat belt on.

Do not keep driving on the flat. The inside of the tire can be damaged in a short distance, and the wheel can follow. A tire driven flat often cannot be repaired, even when the puncture itself was small.

Once you are stopped and safe, call us. Tell us your location, whether you have a spare, and what you saw or heard. A photo of the sidewall tells us the tire size. You do not need to know anything else.

If you cannot get fully off the road, say so on the call. We tell you honestly whether mobile service is safe there or a tow is the better call.

Your three paths

Spare, Repair, or No Spare

Which path you take depends on what is in your trunk and where the damage is. We help you decide on the call.

  • You have a spare

Put it on yourself if you are off the road and know the steps. Or call and we install it, when a technician is available.

  • The puncture is in the tread

A nail or screw in the tread, within repair limits, can often be fixed on site. The tire stays with the car.

  • No spare in the car

Many newer cars ship without one. Call anyway with a sidewall photo. Repair or a replacement tire may still get you moving.

  • The tire was driven flat

We inspect the inside before promising a repair. If the tire is damaged, we say so and move to the spare or a replacement.

  • You are not sure where you are

A mile marker, an exit number, or a nearby business is enough. We confirm the service area on the call.

On arrival

What Happens When the Technician Arrives

The order is the same in a driveway or on a shoulder. Safety, then inspection, then one clear option.

Repair availability depends on tire condition, damage location, tire size, and safety. Quotes are estimates until the technician sees the tire.

Step by step

From Stopped to Moving Again

  1. 01

    Get safe

Off the travel lanes, hazards on. Leave the car only if standing clear is safer than staying belted in.

  2. 02

    Call and describe it

Your location, spare or no spare, and a sidewall photo if you can take one safely.

  3. 03

    Hear the plan

We tell you whether repair, spare, or replacement is likely. You get an honest ETA when a technician is available.

  4. 04

    We come to the car

Jack, compressor, repair kit, and the tools to swap a spare ride with the technician.

  5. 05

Drive away on a safe tire

A repaired tire, the spare with its limits explained, or a replacement. You know which before work starts.

Decide

Spare Yourself, Mobile Repair, or Tow?

There is no wrong answer. There is a safest answer for where you are stopped.

Best when

Put the spare on yourself
You are fully off the road, have a working spare and jack, and know the steps
Wait for mobile repair
You want the tire repaired or have no spare, and the spot is safe to work in
Call a tow
There is no safe shoulder, the wheel is damaged, or more than one tire is down

What you drive away on

Put the spare on yourself
The spare, with its speed and distance limits
Wait for mobile repair
Your repaired tire, your spare, or a replacement
Call a tow
Nothing yet. The car goes to a shop

On a highway shoulder

Put the spare on yourself
Only with a wide shoulder and traffic well clear
Wait for mobile repair
When safe. We tell you on the call if it is not
Call a tow
Safer when traffic is close or the shoulder is narrow

No spare in the car

Put the spare on yourself
Not an option
Wait for mobile repair
Call with a sidewall photo. Repair or replacement where available
Call a tow
Yes. The shop sources a tire

Next stop

Put the spare on yourself
A tire shop soon. Spares are not for long trips
Wait for mobile repair
Usually none. A replacement is arranged if needed
Call a tow
The shop the tow takes you to

Spares have their own speed and distance limits. Check the sidewall or the owner's manual and plan a shop visit soon.

Know before you call

Flat Tire Facts That Change the Plan

Why driving on a flat matters

A flat tire flexes far more than it should. The sidewall rubs against itself and the road. The damage happens inside, where you cannot see it. U.S. Tire Manufacturers Association repair procedures call for an inside inspection of any tire driven flat before repair. Often it is a replacement.

What makes a puncture repairable

Repair is limited to the tread area, within a set puncture size, on a tire in otherwise good condition. Sidewall and shoulder damage are replacements. Our plug and patch page walks through the rules in detail.

Your spare has limits

  • Compact spares carry a speed limit and a distance limit. Both are printed on the tire
  • Check the spare's pressure. Spares lose air sitting in a trunk for years
  • Plan a shop visit or a replacement soon. A spare is a bridge, not a fix

Where we can and cannot work

Driveways, parking lots, hotel and theme park area lots, workplaces, and highway shoulders with room to work safely. If you are on I-4, US-27, or the Turnpike with traffic close, tell us. We say honestly whether a tow is the safer option.

Flat tire questions

Flat Tire Questions

Should I drive on a flat tire?

No. Driving on a flat damages the tire and the wheel, and often makes repair impossible. Pull over safely, put on hazards, and call us.

Can you help if I don't have a spare?

Often yes. Call with the tire size or send a photo of the sidewall. Repair on site or a replacement tire may be possible, depending on availability.

Can you come to a hotel, parking lot, or the highway?

Yes. We regularly help drivers at hotels, theme park areas, lots, driveways, and workplaces. On the highway, we come when it is safe to work there.

How fast can you arrive?

Response times vary by your location, traffic, and technician availability. We give you an honest ETA before dispatching.

Do you repair the flat or replace the tire?

Both, when safe. A tread puncture within repair limits is repaired on site. Otherwise we install the spare or help with a replacement.
